Foul, Deragatory, Hate Speak in AC
Last night while do a post Arborstone run wrap up with a guildie and a former guildie we see a message on AC that has no place there. The person said "get on vent you cunts". One of my officers immediately took offense to the term and asked them to not use that term in AC. I, being a GL, jumped on and said there is no place for language like that in open AC. This person didn't really apologize but just moved on and didn't press the issue and neither did we.
I have set guidelines for my members that any kind of language that may be offensive to another player shouldn't be used in open chat. Yes, the occasional F-Bomb will drop, but we don't make a practice of using it in GC. We do not tolerate any kind of hate speak, belittling, mean spirited, or other language that makes our members feel uncomfortable.
There is no need for language like this in general chats. Using it in private / team chat is fine, but where it can be seen by everyone, no thank you. It would be detrimental to our alliance for new members to come in and see that kind of language flying around. You would never go to a room full of people you don't know and say things like that, so don't here.

I completely agree. There is no reason whatsoever for someone to use sexist or racist terms in the game, on the forum, or in vent. I believe that something of this sort deserves a swift kick out the guild door and a permanent ban from joining other guilds in the alliance.

Simple answer; take a screenshot of the incident and email it to me, post it or do whatever you gotta do. The trouble-maker(s) will be handled, warned and or banned.

/agree
And maybe post the name of the offender (main name) + why.
So i wont happen again. They can change a different person but if you use the main name the change gets smaller.

And to that end Akroma, if the offender is not in AoL, they can be summarily kicked from the guild they are in by an officer or leader who is looking at the shot.

No, first you let them know it is not acceptable on AC. If they continue to do it after you've discussed it with them. Snap a screen shot, post it here, and let their GL do the rest.
For some, common sense just escapes them.

Re: Foul, Deragatory, Hate Speak in AC
I must admit I swear more than most people, but it is never directed at anyone. In my oppinion its ok to swear but not if it is DIRECTED at someone.
eg. "wow, thats shit" - is ok
"wow, your shit" - is not ok
Perhaps if this guidline is followed, similar cases can be avoided whilst still maintaining a casual athmosphere...
if i am wrong please correct me...

Shank that's my personal policy as well. As I talked to Pendragon today, cursing can be used with no insulting manner intended. Sexist and Racist terms are used in two way: to insult someone or to give an example of someone who used the term to insult.

Re: Foul, Deragatory, Hate Speak in AC
I was the officer that took offence. While I am far from a prude, (ask anyone!) I have a problem with the "c" word, and it was totally unnecessary in this context. I swear as well, although I try to keep it to a minimum. Usually things can be said with less abrasive words such as "crap", etc. While I do not get offended when someone is frustrated and swears, any language directed at other members as this was is unacceptable.
We tell new recruits that one of our guidelines is "be polite in guild/alliance chat". We nip it right in the bud if we catch someone acting inappropriately, and I don't care how old they are.
Use some common sense, for god sakes.
On a related note, I have discussed this with some others -- it's easy to be rude when you sit behind a computer. There are generally no consequences of real import. It's much harder to be rude to someone's face. So think before you type -- would you say this to someone's face? If you wouldn't, then don't type it. Simple. If you have any social skills at all, apply them to open forums such as guild/alliance chat. The rest of us will be grateful.

We need to add to this rule that we can no longer chit-chat, joke, tease, say anything that may offend a piece of wood, and I think there were other things said as well.

i think that really vulgar language has several alternatives
like "oh $h!t" can be replaced with "oh snap" or somethin like that
u get where im goin...
i personally dont use such language except with ppl i know very well
never used it in public
